The Discipline Committee
The Discipline Committee consists of four brokers and one public member.
A hearing of the Discipline Committee is conducted similar to civil court proceedings. Testimony is given under oath and recorded by a court reporter. The rules of evidence that apply in court are followed.
In all cases, there is no presumption of guilt. RIBO is responsible to prove that misconduct has occurred before a broker will be found guilty.
The Discipline Committee has the power to reprimand, impose a fine, request special financial reporting, require attendance at educational courses, suspend, restrict or revoke a license.
All discipline decisions are published in the RIBO Bulletin unless the Committee orders otherwise.
Overall, the decisions of the Committees have an impact on the rights and privileges of brokers in Ontario and must be fair and equitable at all times.
