Insurance brokers are entrusted with helping Ontarians secure the coverage they need to protect their homes, businesses, vehicles and futures. This responsibility demands rigorous oversight to ensure brokers act with integrity, follow legal requirements, and prioritize consumers’ interests.
Public protection is central to our mandate. Licensees are expected to comply with the Registered Insurance Brokers Act (RIB Act), Regulations including the Code of Conduct and by-laws. We have enforcement processes in place, address complaints and hold brokers accountable with consequences for failing to adhere to RIBO’s regulatory requirements.
Consumers should trust brokers to provide honest, clear and accurate advice. Through our public interest mandate, RIBO ensures that brokers meet their regulatory obligations, including acting in the best interests of their clients. If you believe that a broker or brokerage has not provided you with proper service or may have acted in an unprofessional or dishonest manner, consider making a complaint and providing any documents and information you believe supports your complaint.
As the regulator for brokers and brokerages, RIBO protects Ontarians by ensuring that licensees comply with RIBO’s regulatory requirements.
We hold brokers to the highest standards and take action when those standards are not met. Our enforcement activity including scheduled hearings and motions, as well as published decisions, are publicly available.
