This page applies to the renewal of Firm licenses (including Active Firms, Non-Active Firms, Wholesalers, MGAs and Consultants). If you are an individual broker looking for information on how to renew your license, please see our dedicated How to Renew for Individuals page

The renewal process is completed entirely online.

Renewals can only be submitted during the Renewal Period. For the 2023-24 license year, the Renewal Period is from Tuesday August 1st, 2023, to Thursday, August 31, 2023. A grace period of one month is offered allowing renewals to be completed by Saturday, September 30, 2023. See also When to Renew.

The renewal process consists of five main steps.

  1. Logging into the Membership Portal
  2. Completing your Individual Renewal
  3. Completing the Annual Renewal for your Firm
  4. Payment of your Firm fee (and fees for your employees if you are on Bulk Payment)
  5. Monitoring your employees renewal status

Before you begin, we recommend that you review the Renewal Checklist for Firms to ensure that you have all information on hand to complete the renewal process.

Step 1. Logging into the Membership Portal

Note: It is highly recommended that you use a computer to complete your renewal rather than a mobile device.

To access the Membership Portal visit http://membership.ribo.com or select MEMBER LOGIN in the top banner on any page on the RIBO website.

You may use either your License/Registration Number or your Primary Email Address on file in the Login field. To find your registration number, please use the Broker/Broker Search function and type in your name.

For more information on gaining access to the Membership Portal including password reset information and changing/updating your primary email address please visit the Access to the Membership Portal page.

Step 2. Complete your Individual Renewal

Select ANNUAL RENEWAL from the top menu (next to Proxy). See how to complete your individual renewal for details.

Step 3. Complete the Annual Renewal for your Firm

Select MY FIRM(S), from the top menu and select the firm you want to renew.

In the lower menu, select Annual Renewal (next to Position Reports).

In this step you will:

  • Verify/update your contact information
  • Verify the Employee listing. If this information is incorrect notify RIBO by email at support@ribo.com.
  • Answer the 2023 Firm Renewal questions
  • Verify/update details about E&O insurance, Branch locations, Affiliates, Trade Names and Banking
  • Attest to the accuracy of the information provided

A video walk through of this aspect of the renewal process is shown below.

Step 4: Make Payment

Select Employee Membership in the lower menu.

By default firms are enrolled in the Bulk Payment option.

If you are enrolled in Bulk Payment:

  • Unselect any employees who should not be included in your payment
  • Select Remove unchecked individuals and proceed to payment
  • Note that once removed employees can not be re-added and must make an individual payment
  • Your payment total will include your Firm fee along with the fee for your employees

If you are not-enrolled in Bulk Payment (or are a Non-Active Firm):

  • You will only be required to pay the Firm renewal fee

Select your form of payment. Note that we accept MasterCard and Visa, or for payments in excess of $10,000, a cheque made out to Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario.

If paying by credit card you may pay immediately.

If paying by cheque, you may download your invoice by selecting ANNUAL RENEWAL > MEMBERSHIP HISTORY and select the current renewal term. You will find options to print your invoice to submit to your accounting department.

Step 5: Monitor your employees renewal status

In the Employee Membership section, you will be able to see which individuals at your firm have already submitted their renewal and/or paid. Employees can continue to submit their individual renewals after you have paid, but will not be renewed unless both their individual renewal form has been submitted and payment has been made.

While ultimately it is the responsibility of the individual broker to ensure their license is renewed, Principal Brokers have a responsibility to ensure that only brokers with an active RIBO license engage in restricted activities (including the sale of insurance products) as per the RIB Act, Regulations and By-Laws. As such, it is in your best interest to review the status of renewals for your employees and follow up with those who have yet to renew, particularly as the August 31ST deadline approaches.
