RIBO is the provincial regulator for insurance brokers in Ontario. Our primary mission is to protect the public in their interactions with insurance brokers. We combine the stability of a job in the broader public sector with the spark and creativity of a start-up, which we think is pretty cool. We are looking for a full-time Knowledge Management Associate.
The job in a nutshell:
This is a new position at RIBO that is designed to help solve a very specific problem: We have a lot of knowledge but we aren’t super efficient at making use of it. As the first person in this role, you’ll be able to help define the requirements and make this job your own. Here’s what we see you doing:
1. Knowledge mining and documentation – for each process, topic or function you set your sights
on, you’ll need to combine your curiosity, insatiable search for specificity, and your clear writing
skills to dig into and document how things work and why, making sure to include every
exception and scenario that might apply.
2. Knowledge monitoring – people, both internal and external, have questions, your work helps
provide answers. You’ll monitor the kinds of questions that come in, and, as needed, provide
answers from the knowledge repository you are building.
3. Knowledge dissemination – the knowledge monitoring part of your role will give you insight
into popular areas of interest. You will use this to help identify the areas where we need to
improve our communications and what communications tools we need to support this work.
4. Knowledge organization – once knowledge is documented it needs to be organized so it can be
found. You’ll need to get into the heads of the users of this knowledge to determine how to
categorize, tag, and otherwise structure it so that its findable and usable.
This job might be for you if:
You are a natural researcher – you like to dig into details. You are analytical. You ask lots of questions.
You work well with others – a lot of our knowledge is in the heads of some very busy people, you will need them to want to work with you to be successful.
You communicate clearly – Your writing is specific, accurate and clear. You can make yourself understood and you can explain just about anything to anyone.
You are tech savvy – you’ll be using a variety of software including WordPress, Sharepoint, and the MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint. You will help us explore other Knowledge Management Systems that might support our goals.
You are results oriented and have a desire to make things happen – including the ability to be a self starter and keep yourself and others organized and on task, while managing multiple priorities concurrently.
To make the cut you will have:
At least 5 years experience in knowledge or content management, technical writing, communications, editorial and/or publishing roles
A degree or diploma in Communications, Business, or a related field or equivalent job experience. Bonus points if you have worked in an insurance, financial services, legal or regulatory environment
