Senior Investigator

The Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (“RIBO”) is the provincial regulator for general insurance brokers in Ontario. Our primary mission is to protect the public in their interactions with general insurance brokers.  

We are looking for a full-time Senior Investigator.

This exciting role is ideal for experienced investigators dedicated to fulfilling a public protection mandate.  

Primary Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Investigations, you will be responsible for investigating complaints against licensees. Investigations include preparing investigation plans, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, drafting Investigation Reports, and preparing cases for the Complaints and Discipline Committees. This role requires proven experience in analyzing evidence, writing investigation reports and excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will also be required to give evidence at discipline hearings, when necessary.  

Key aspects of the role include: 

  • Preparing investigation plans which includes identifying regulatory issues in a complaint, determining the theory of the case and the evidence to be collected
  • Gathering evidence including documentary evidence and conducting in-person/virtual interviews of complainants, licensees, and other witnesses. Reviewing and analyzing documentary and witness evidence
  • Drafting correspondence, investigation reports and when required, working jointly with other investigators, auditors, practice management lead, and other RIBO staff
  • Giving evidence at discipline hearings
  • Performing administrative duties required in investigations, recording, and maintaining evidence, and complying with all CCI and organizational processes and service standards
  • Meeting monthly and annual production targets
  • Remaining current on industry and regulatory issues, trends, practices, and legislative requirements

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 5-7 years investigations experience in a regulatory environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as law, business and accounting or can demonstrate proven experience working with financial books and records and record keeping
  • Excellent interpersonal and superior communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proven problem-solving, analytical, time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Are a highly organized and detailed-oriented professional
  • Have a working knowledge of administrative law as it relates to regulatory investigations
