Renewing Your Firm Licence

A RIBO licence is valid for one year and must be renewed annually. The licence year is October 1 to September 30.

July 2 to July 27

Principal Brokers can access the renewal portion of IRIS, which allows them to:

  • Renew their firm
  • Renew their own individual licence, and then
  • Optionally pay for all the brokers in their firm as a bulk payment.

Delegate access is not available in IRIS for this year’s renewal.

Licensees will not have access to renew their licenses in IRIS until August 3.

July 28 to August 2

No Principal Brokers or individual brokers will have access to any renewal or payment functions. This provides RIBO staff time to process bulk payments.

August 3 to August 31

All individual brokers can now access the renewal portion of IRIS to:

  • Complete their renewal questions.
  • See if their licence has been paid for through bulk payment. If it has not been paid through bulk payment by July 27, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET, they will be required to pay for their own licence renewal.
  • Pay to renew their non-active firm licence (if applicable).

All licensees who obtained their licence before July 1, 2026 are required to complete their 2026-2027 licence year renewals by August 31, 2026.

After August 31

RIBO’s 30-day notice period runs after August 31 until September 30, 2026.

A 30-day notice will be sent indicating that they will be suspended (Administrative Suspension), if they did not complete their renewal by August 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Any broker or brokerage whose licence has not renewed by September 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET will be suspended (Administrative Suspension).

October 1

Any licensee who has not completed their renewal by September 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET will have their licence suspended (Administrative Suspension) and be required to apply to RIBO for reinstatement.

Watch a recording of the Principal Broker Townhall that we held where we provided renewal information and answered questions.

Annually, RIBO collects industry information from licensees through its licence renewal questionnaire. These questions provide industry insights, allow members to confirm their status with the organization, and maintain compliance with applicable RIBO regulations.

During the 2024-2025 renewal period, we received over 20,000 individual renewals and over 900 firm renewals. Those who failed to renew were administratively suspended and legally could not act as a licensed insurance broker/firm until they resolved the issue.
