Continuing Education

RIBO Continuing Education refers to the ongoing education requirements that Ontario insurance brokers must fulfill to maintain their licence with RIBO.

Continuing Education (CE) ensures that brokers stay updated on industry best practices, regulatory changes, and new knowledge relevant to their profession. This requirement helps maintain professional standards and enhance the quality of service provided by insurance brokers.

Learn about broker Continuing Education requirements and accredited seminars and courses.

Take advantage of courses that are offered all year round to avoid scrambling when the demand for courses around September is high and spaces may fill up fast. If you wait last minute, you might not get into the courses you want. Remember, you must fulfil your Continuing Education requirements by September 30 or risk having your licence suspended.

Consider enrolling in online courses that accommodate your schedule.

Principal/Deputy Principal Brokers require a minimum of 5 Management CE hours every term. All other licensed individuals may use Management CE hours to fulfill any portion of the remaining 4 CE hours needed after completing the minimum 3 Technical and 1 Ethics CE hours.

Find out from the Principal Broker in your office if there are any insurers who offer their own RIBO-accredited courses. This is one way to find interesting seminars that will assist you in your day-to-day operations.

Consider creating a buddy system with another local office. If you work together, you could bring a course provider to your office to run a seminar.

If a course you are offering falls under one of the four RIBO CE categories (Ethics, Technical, Management, Professional Development), then you can apply for RIBO accreditation.

If your brokerage or association has booked a guest speaker and their topic falls into any of RIBO’s categories, you can apply for RIBO accreditation.
