Course Outline: In the real world, understanding when to pick up the phone and call for help is almost always apparent. A car crash at a busy intersection, a co-worker clutching their chest and having difficulty breathing, a collision in a sporting event where someone loses consciousness, are all obvious events that necessitate a call for help. However, in the cybersecurity realm, the warning signs are often much less obvious. A buried entry in an event log, a unique warning banner, or a call from someone from the ‘help desk’ asking you to install a patch, may all be tripwires to cybersecurity incidents. This presentation will cover some of the common information security tripwires that, if observed, may actually be a harbinger of bad things to come. For many of these tripwires, it may be time to pick up the phone and call for help.
