ANSWERS:

When to Renew: The RIB Act requires that renewals are completed by August 31st each year. RIBO does offer a grace period until September 30th. For more information see When to Renew

Payment Methods: For individual payments and bulk payments under $10,000 we only accept Mastercard and Visa. For bulk payments in excess of $10,000 we will also accept a cheque. For more information see Payments and Fees

Failure to Renew: Failing to renew on time will result in the immediate and automatic withdrawal of your license (deregistration) and the privileges that accompany it. If this occurs you must immediately stop holding yourself out an insurance broker. If you wish to restore you license after you have been deregistered you will need to apply for reinstatement and pay the associated fees.

License Not Required: If you no longer require a RIBO license you do not need to complete the renewal process, please email confirmation of resignation (effective September 30th) to licensing@ribo.com. By failing to renew you will automatically be deregistered as of October 1st and penalties would apply for eligible for reinstatement.

If you have a non-active firm, please also provide confirmation that the non-active firm be deregistered as well.

You can hold an inactive license for one year (twelve months) provided that you are not working anywhere including outside the industry.  At the end of the one-year inactive period or if you have gained employment that does not require a RIBO license, you would be required to resign the license.  The one-year inactive license period begins on the date your brokerage removes sponsorship. In order to hold an inactive license for the one-year period you must complete online renewal/payment prior to August 31st and must have your continuing education hours in order to renew.

At the end of one year period, you would be required to resign the license which will give you a period of two years to reinstate without having to rewrite the exam). Inactive period would start the date your brokerage removes sponsorship.

Missed Deadline: Failing to renew on time will result in the immediate and automatic withdrawal of your license (deregistration) and the privileges that accompany it. If this occurs you must immediately stop holding yourself out an insurance broker. If you wish to restore you license after you have been deregistered you will need to apply for reinstatement and pay the associated fees.

Portal Access: You can access the membership portal at http://membership.ribo.com or by selecting MEMBER LOGIN in the top banner on any page on the RIBO website. For more information about accessing the portal including help with login credentials see the Access to the Membership Portal page

Password Reset:

  • Select ‘Forgot Password’
  • Enter your RIBO Registration number (see also How do I find my Registration Number)
  • A scrambled version of your Primary Email address will be displayed. Confirm this address by typing in the complete (unscrambled version) of the email address.
  • Select ‘Reset My Password’
  • Check you email for an email from support@ribo.com with your new temporary password.

License / Registration Number: You can find your individual or firm license number (sometimes also called a registration number) using the BROKER/BROKERAGE SEARCH function on the RIBO website. https://membership.ribo.com/Thinclient/Public/PR/EN/

Fees: License fees for the current year are posted on the Fees and Payments page.

Firm Payments: You should check with the Principal Broker of your firm to confirm that they are paying for your license.

If you are currently registered with a brokerage that has opted in for bulk payment, you will be required to submit the form only. Once you check the acknowledgement checkbox, you will see a confirmation message that payment has gone to your Principal Broker for processing. Once this payment from the firm has been submitted to RIBO, your license will then be made available for printing.

Renewal When Firm Pays: Yes, the renewal process is two stages- submitting the form & completing payment. Your renewal will be successfully completed only when both payment has been received, and your renewal form (questions) submitted.

Please check MEMBERSHIP HISTORY to print a copy of your license for the upcoming term. If your license is not available, your renewal was not completed successfully.

Incomplete Continuing Education: Yes, because the renewal deadline is September 30 and registration must be completed by August 31 there is a possibility that you may not have completed your continuing education requirements at the time of renewal. You will not be required (or able) to upload continuing education certificates.

For more information see Continuing Education

License printing?: To verify your renewal was completed, it is highly recommended that you print your license on or before September 30th to avoid potential late penalties. If you are able to access your license in the Membership portal for the coming year it means your renewal was successful. Please note, the act of not printing a license will not deregister an individual or result in any regulatory action, but if a person is having issues printing their license on the RIBO portal this might mean that they are at risk of deregistration if they forgot to submit their renewal form or pay for their license.

Non-Active Firm Renewal: As a non-active firm member you have two renewals to complete, one for your individual license and one for your non-active firm.

For information on completing your individual renewal see the How to Renew for Individuals page For information on completing your non-active firm renewal see How to Renew for Firms

Have not found my answer: We’re sorry to hear that you are having difficulties and we are happy to assist you. Given the large number of brokers in the province all renewing their licenses over a short period of time, we would appreciate that before contacting us you first review the content of the Renewal Centre to see if you can find the answers you need there. This will be the fastest way to get the answers you need.

Alternatively try out chat bot (bottom right of screen).

If you still are not able find the answer to your question please reach out us by email at support@ribo.com

We kindly ask that you submit only one email per issue and do not attempt to directly contact individual RIBO staff members. All requests sent directly to staff members will be forwarded to support@ribo.com for processing and will not result in faster response times.

Contacting us multiple times simply means that we have more requests to deal with and will result in delays.

It is not unusual for us to experience high volumes of help requests during the renewal period. We aim to respond to all support requests within 1 business day (8 business hours). Our business hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30pm.

If you have an issue with the speed or quality of support or have a suggestion on how we can improve please contact info@ribo.com

Member Portal after September 30th : The latest an individual or firm can renew their license is September 30th. After that date, RIBO requires full online reinstatement application.
